In light of the St. Paul Public Schools reopening for in-person classes, Milan Dennie will host a free back-to-school event at his University Avenue barbershop on Monday. Patrons who sign their K-5 students up online will receive a free children’s haircut, a backpack and two custom-made face masks while supplies last.
Dennie, the proprietor of King Milan’s Barbershop, also runs the nonprofit It’s Our Neighborhood, which aims to instill pride in St. Paul’s Frogtown and Summit-University neighborhoods by offering opportunities for young people along the Green Line light rail corridor.
His back-to-school events usually take place in September, but Dennie has been especially busy during the pandemic, and he aims to help friends and neighbors weather the crisis.
To register for a free haircut and back-to-school supplies, he’s asking parents of kids in kindergarten through 5th grade to sign up online under the “RSVP” tab at ItsOurNeighborhood.com. King Milan’s will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
