Arike Ogunbowale, Kayla Thornton the latest WNBA players to show off stylish pregame outfits

The WNBA season is approaching the one-month mark, and there have been plenty of exciting plays, performances and games to witness so far. Along with the action on the hardwood, a number of players have stood out with their eccentric fashion choices.

Vibrant ensembles, luxury clothing brands and stylish accessories are some ways athletes in “The W” have shown off their fashion sense. Others have used their outfits to bring attention to the situation surrounding Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner. Griner was arrested in February at a Moscow-area airport and the U.S. government now considers her to be “wrongfully detained.” Players have worn shirts, pins and more to raise awareness about bringing her back to the United States.

This week, the eye-catching fits continued with looks featuring influential music legends, business attire and more.

Here is a look at some of the best fits around the WNBA:

Kayla Thornton and Arike Ogunbowale, Dallas Wings

Thorton’s attire was a vibrant Nike fit and a necklace with her initials as the pendant.

Ogunbowale donned a shirt that had the late fashion designer and Off-White founder Virgil Abloh pictured on it.

Elena Delle Donne and Natasha Cloud, Washington Mystics

The support for Griner continues as Mystics players Della Donne and Cloud wore shirts with an image of the Phoenix Mercury star pictured on them.

Erica Wheeler, Tiffany Hayes, Monique Billings and Megan Walker, Atlanta Dream

This Dream foursome brought out some eye-catching fits ahead of Friday’s matchup with the Chicago Sky. Wheeler’s jewelry and black shades stood out for her look, while Billings rocked a denim-centric outfit complemented with a letterman jacket. Hayes showed up wearing a Chicago Bulls star DeMar DeRozan’s Compton High School jersey replica. Walker showed solidarity for Griner with her hoodie featuring the Mercury player’s face. She also arrived to the arena in a sweet ride.

Sabrina Ionescu and Han Xu, New York Liberty

Sweaters are good for any season, according to Ionescu and Xu at least. Ionescu arrived to Wednesday’s matchup against the Indiana Fever in a Gucci sweater, while Xu rocked a button-up/sweater vest combo complemented with a tie. Teammate Rebecca Allen went with a checkered blazer and ripped jeans.

Atlanta Dream

The Dream were the latest squad to show support for Griner. Several players arrived at Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Lynx rocking gear with Griner pictured on it.

Marina Mabrey and Arike Ogunbowale, Dallas Wings

Before taking the court against the Los Angeles Sparks Tuesday, Mabrey sent a message with her t-shirt. The clothing had graphic images of herself with the words “this is my kitchen.” The phrase stems from a tweet she posted in 2018 as a response to “male women’s basketball haters.” She’s worn apparel that featured her saying in the past, with some available for purchase on her PWRFWD site.

Ogunbowale’s attire featured a shirt with positive messaging along with a double C’s bucket hat from Chanel.

A’ja Wilson and Dearica Hamby, Las Vegas Aces

Wilson’s jersey dress honored former San Antonio Stars player Nikki McCray. McCray played for the Stars in 2005 and shouted out the Las Vegas star for rocking her jersey. The Aces were formerly known as the Stars until MGM Resorts bought the team and moved them to Las Vegas in 2017.

Hamby’s fit was monochromatic, but what stood out was her accessory choice. She had a boombox handy, giving her ensemble a throwback vibe.

Chicago Sky

Sky players were the latest to don gear in support of Griner’s release from Russian detention, rocking apparel that had the Mercury star’s face pictured on it.

Skylar Diggins-Smith and Tina Charles, Phoenix Mercury

Business looks can have some spice to them, and Diggins-Smith proved that on Tuesday. She donned a black suit along with sleek shades and a white handbag.

Charles honored the late Jimi Hendrix ahead of Tuesday’s matchup with the Sky, sporting a t-shirt with the influential rock guitarist pictured on it with a quote from his song “Are You Experienced.” The album under the same name was Hendrix’s debut project in 1967.
