Mauboy will perform her latest single as part of the IFP runway on Gadigal Country on May 10 2022, marking her first official engagement as DAAFF’s new ambassador.
Speaking on the performance, Mauboy said she is honoured to be featured alongside the First Nations designers.
“I am beyond excited to be performing at this year’s Indigenous Fashion Projects runway at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week – it will be an honour to stand up on stage with some of Australia’s most talented First Nations designers.
“This experience will be my first official engagement as a Community Ambassador for DAAFF and I’m overjoyed to be joining with them to showcase the incredible work they do in supporting emerging and established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and designers,” she said.
Designers participating in the IFP runway are Saltwater Dunghutti designer Nancy Pattison, Wonnarua designer Amanda Healy, Yolngu designer Liandra Gaykamangu, Yuwaalaraay designer Julie Shaw, Biripi and Ngarabal designer Natalie Cunningham and Wiradjuri designer Denni Francisco.
The show will be brought to life by co-creative directors Al Weekes and Eastern Arrernte woman, Shilo McNamee, head runway stylist and Yorta Yorta man Rhys Ripper, and Cat Rose as producer.
The runway will also feature videography by the acclaimed First Nations visual artist Wayne Quilliam.
IFP manager Dave Giles-Kaye welcomed Mauboy’s performance on the IFP runway.
“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander fashion and design has well and truly taken centre stage after experiencing such rapid growth and garnering significant attention both in Australia and overseas.
“We are looking forward to having Jess perform as part of the IFP runway show – she has always been a fantastic advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives, so it just feels like a natural fit to have her kick off the event with a fantastic, celebratory performance,” he said.
The IFP runway is presented by Afterpay and supported by David Jones.
It will be held at Carriageworks in Sydney on Tuesday May 10 at 8pm.
Tickets to the IFP runway and Jessica Mauboy performance are available to purchase now and are open to the public but numbers are limited.
