Healthcare workers get free haircuts at Scottsdale salon

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — It was a busy day inside Ryan M. Scottsdale, as stylists gave free haircuts to healthcare workers.

Between the washing, combing and snipping, Kaleigh DeJohn was getting some much-needed pampering.

“Shortening my hair, it’s been pretty long for the last year, so I was like why not?” DeJohn said.

DeJohn is in charge of delivering meals to patients in the hospital, which includes the COVID floor.

“It’s hard because they can’t see their families, they can’t see our faces honestly,” she said.

She says her husband works in a cemetery selling burial plots.

“He’s been seeing actually a lot, unfortunately,” she said. “But at least we have each other.”

They’re the heroes that aren’t often celebrated. But on Sunday, the salon’s owner Ryan McKinley said it was all about them.

“It’s making someone just feel beautiful,” he said. “The most beautiful version of themselves.”

His employees volunteered their time to cut and style hair for over 50 healthcare workers, as a thank you for the sacrifices they continue to make.

“We wanted to do something to give back to them,” McKinley said.

For DeJohn, she says she’s thankful for the relaxation.

“It’s really heartwarming, honestly,” she said.
